Another Year Has Come and Gone...

Welcome to 2012! It's already the tail end of February...It will be summer again before you know it. Isn't it finally time to put your house in order with a complete and thoughtful estate plan? If you have assets worth protecting and passing to your heirs (such as equity in a home, a life insurance policy, IRA or 401(k) assets, or a business) you really ought to make your legacy legally enforceable.

Estate Planning is All We Do

Jamestown Estate Planning is dedicated to providing comprehensive advice in trusts, wills, special needs planning, land trusts, and other estate planning approaches. My goal is to truly protect you and your assets, not just draft a document that sits on your shelf gathering dust for the next 10 years.

I don't dabble in estate planning - it's the only area of law I practice. This means I am in the forefront of current techniques, and have the experience to help you make the right decisions. I focus on wills, revocable trusts, land trusts, charitable planning, special needs planning, asset protection and other estate planning strategies. I've probably seen what you're facing, and this experience means I can give you good advice and lots of ideas.

I'm not like other lawyers. I never bill by the hour - only by a reasonable flat fee agreed upon before work begins, and I'm always accessible and eager to talk to you. If you've had the experience of being billed in six-minute increments for phone calls and meetings, or if you've had trouble getting a lawyer to return your phone call, or if you've ever felt your lawyer wasn't listening to you...well, come and see for yourself -I'm not like that.

A Personal Message from Jamestown Estate Planning's Brent Ripley:

Brent Ripley

"I want to be your Lawyer for Life"

"I've been practicing estate planning in Utah for over a decade now, and I've reviewed or drafted literally hundreds of estate plans. I've noticed the same mistakes over and over again. Jamestown Estate Planning is built around helping you avoid making these mistakes. Here are some thoughts about what I believe.

I believe you deserve a long-term relationship with the lawyer you hire for a process as important as estate planning. This should not be a "one and done" meeting where you're rushed through the artifically hurried process of signing cookie-cutter documents. You deserve thoughtful, deliberate attention to your wishes.

I believe it's your money to do with as you please. I do have a lot of good ideas, but I don't have any preconceived ideas about what you should do. You deserve the time it takes for me to understand what you want and to make sure the documents reflect it. I will never send your documents to a paralegal who has never met you for the drafting and assembly of your plan documents.

I believe your plans and desires will change over time, and that you should have a process in place to make sure your documents reflect your changing circumstances. We contact you at least every three years to set up a review meeting where minor changes and updates are made free of charge.

I believe you deserve to know up front what your plan will cost. Nobody likes bad money surprises and nobody likes to be taken advantage of. High hourly billing rates with an open timetable is a recipe for a bad relationship. Limiting your lawyer's time in an attempt to save money is a recipe for a bad estate plan. With my firm, you know exactly what it will cost no matter how long it takes before you ever give me the go-ahead. And your plan is always top notch. I will stack my estate plans against anyone's!

I believe the best documents in the world are worthless if the underlying estate is poorly invested. I also believe the best investments in the world are damaged by poor documentation. In addition to my work as an attorney, I am a licensed investment adviser and President of Jamestown Wealth Management LLC, a fee only RIA firm. I do not sell investments for commission, but I help people make good investments. I see your estate from both the tax and legal perspectives as well as the investment perspective. You will get advice and insight from me that you simply will not get with a traditional lawyer or a traditional financial advisor, regardless of whether you ever use my firm to manage your wealth.

I hope you'll come visit with me. I think I can help you."
